Malaysia's grid can generate power it cannot store: OCBC lends RM325M to its first utility-scale battery

OCBC arranged MYR 325 million ($79.5M) for ESS Bahau's 100MW/400MWh system, the first project financed under MyBeST, the Energy Commission's competitive tender for grid-scale storage. Operation targets July 2027.

Positive-sum angle: Storage is what makes intermittent solar bankable. Every megawatt-hour Johor can hold overnight is a megawatt the data-centre build no longer takes from households at dusk.
