A Manila stall's permit bill more than quadruples; Thai tills become collateral.

Permit fees · late payers · sales-data credit

Someone's payday
- What does a US$1,000 permit bill cost a Manila food stall? Nine of its 15 jobs — The Philippine Star
Kriska Castillejos paid about US$220 to renew a Sampaloc food stall's permits last year and US$1,000 this year, after Manila's Ordinance 9151 raised commercial garbage fees up to 12 times. Castillejos let nine of 15 staff go.
Positive-sum angle: The fee schedule prices eating places by floor area, not by the waste they make. That gap rewards anyone who can measure tonnage: a stall that weighs and sorts its bins, the hauler that certifies it, and a city that says it wants the waste redirected.
What's the impact: Manila food operators should budget permits as a monthly line near US$85 (P5,300), not a January surprise. The opening: a bin-weighing and segregation service that hands a Sampaloc stall a waste record to take to City Hall.
Your costs
- Up to eight months on a 45-day invoice: Thailand moves to fine late-paying retailers — Nation Thailand
Thailand's competition regulator caps supplier payment at 45 days for SMEs, yet some suppliers to modern-trade chains wait six to eight months. A proposed rule adds fines; SMEs meanwhile borrow at 6.9% against 3.9% for large firms.
Positive-sum angle: Commissioner Warawan Chitaroon puts the cash stuck in late payments at US$3.0 billion to US$6.1 billion. Released, it pays farmers inside 30 days, lets banks lend against invoices that clear on schedule, and keeps chains stocked by suppliers still in business.
What's the impact: Thai suppliers to modern-trade chains should log every invoice and payment date now, before the fines take effect. The opening: an invoice-age tracker that flags day 46 and assembles the evidence file the regulator's rule asks for.
The tool
- Can a stall borrow on three months of app sales? Krungthai's Nok Krasip lends to US$15,000 — Nation Thailand
Krungthai put Nok Krasip, an AI assistant, into its Tung Ngern merchant app on September 10. It reads a trader's sales and costs, then lends on three months of sales: up to US$15,000, no branch visit.
Positive-sum angle: A loan judged on sales rather than a land title reaches traders with no collateral; Krungthai aims it at more than 1.2 million of them. The state credit guarantor backs it with US$170 million (THB5.5 billion), so suppliers, landlords and the bank gain from a stall that restocks on time.
What's the impact: Thai stalls already on Tung Ngern should compare the GSB micro-loan, up to US$1,500 at 0.75% a month flat, with the moneylender on total repaid. A flat rate charges interest on the full sum all year, so it costs close to twice what it reads.
