Power, credit and paperwork repriced; the small operator keeps the margin.

Someone's payday
- A freezer that skips the meter: Rey Sunglao raises $900K for plug-in solar — TNGlobal
Lumio Solar raised a $900,000 pre-seed led by 100x100. Founder Rey Sunglao sells plug-and-play solar fans, lights, freezers and power stations to Filipino households and MSMEs that cannot mount panels on a roof they do not own.
Positive-sum angle: Renting the roof has kept solar out of reach for the shops that need it most. Appliance-level solar moves the decision from a landlord to a shopkeeper, and every unit sold thickens the repair, financing and distribution trade around it.
What's the impact: A Manila or Cebu operator paying to keep stock cold overnight should price a plug-in unit against next quarter's bill, not against a rooftop install. The financing wrapper for these appliances stays unbuilt across SEA.

- Twenty percent to eight: Indonesia cuts the rate 12 million warung owners pay PNM Mekaar — detikFinance
UMKM Minister Maman Abdurrahman set the PNM Mekaar ultra-micro lending rate at 8 percent from early September, down from a range of 18 to 25 percent. A government subsidy of roughly 10 points covers the gap.
Positive-sum angle: Twelve million collateral-free borrowers, most of them women running food and retail stalls, keep about twelve points of margin that used to leave the business. Suppliers, wholesalers and every lender who prices against Mekaar reset from the new floor.
What's the impact: SEA fintechs lending to Indonesian micro-merchants should reprice this quarter. Subsidised 8 percent is the number to beat, and beating it means underwriting on sales data. Distribution, not cost of funds, is the edge that remains.
The tool
- Stop paying frontier prices to read a receipt: 100 GRPO steps fix a 350M model's JSON — Hugging Face
Hugging Face published a recipe that fine-tunes Liquid AI's 350M-parameter LFM2.5 with a LoRA adapter over 500 samples and 100 GRPO steps on a free 16GB GPU. JSON compliance rose from 18 to 31.9 percent.
Positive-sum angle: A model small enough to run on a laptop, trained on a free tier, closes the gap on the job most back offices actually need: turning messy text into fields. Code and weights are public, so the recipe compounds wherever the documents sit.
What's the impact: A two-person Jakarta or Manila ops team can train an extractor on their own invoices this week instead of metering an API. Nobody has shipped one tuned on Bahasa, Thai or Tagalog receipts; that wrapper is open.

Never miss a SEA deal.
