Tech Breakthroughs
- A 770B model ships free under Apache 2.0: Tencent's Hy4 activates 49B a token — TNGlobal
Tencent released the Hy4 preview with 770 billion parameters, 49 billion active per token, and a context window past one million tokens. Full weights and an FP8 build download under Apache 2.0.
Positive-sum angle: Open weights at this scale hand every downstream builder a frontier substrate they did not have to train. Inference vendors, agent-harness authors and fine-tuners across Asia now price against a free ceiling, and each derivative feeds back into the same commons.
What's the impact: SEA teams weighing a frontier API contract should benchmark Hy4 on OpenRouter first, then price self-hosting against that number. Plan 2027 tooling budgets around a free 770B ceiling rather than renewed lab-tier rates.
Emerging Industries
- Who actually builds the projects? Singapore signs its twelfth Article 6 carbon deal, fourth in ASEAN — TNGlobal
Singapore and Lao PDR signed an Implementation Agreement on Friday, giving project developers a legally binding Article 6 framework to generate and transfer carbon credits between the two countries.
Positive-sum angle: A signed corridor cuts cost for everyone downstream. Verifiers, registries and the Lao communities hosting the projects all gain from a framework that turns forest and grid mitigation into an asset Singapore carbon-tax payers can legally buy.
What's the impact: The treaty exists and the project pipeline does not. Climate developers in Singapore and Vientiane should scope Lao cookstove, grid and forestry projects this quarter, before the twelfth agreement draws the crowd the first eleven did.
- Cleaning is where wages rose and workers vanished: Singapore's Hivebotics raises $6M for a restroom robot — TNGlobal
Vertex Ventures led a $6 million Series A into the NUS spinoff, whose Abluo arm has logged nearly 10,000 operating hours across more than 20 hospitals, airports and malls on four continents.
Positive-sum angle: Hours logged inside real public restrooms become training data no lab can buy. Facility operators, cleaning contractors and the workers left holding skilled tasks all gain as the machine absorbs the shift nobody wanted to fill.
What's the impact: Facility operators across ageing SEA labour markets should reprice cleaning per outcome rather than per headcount, and pilot while distributor slots stay open. The robotics opening sits in the tasks recruiters already cannot fill.
Open Source Projects
- Three idle machines beat one busy laptop: NVIDIA opens PAIR under Apache 2.0 — MarkTechPost
The Personal AI Router discovers compatible machines on a local network and schedules independent inference requests across them. NVIDIA's demo finished a task in 8:48 across three devices against 18 minutes on one.
Positive-sum angle: PAIR proxies existing Ollama and LM Studio endpoints, so agent harnesses need no changes. Every idle RTX card, DGX Spark and M4 Mac already sitting in an office becomes shared capacity, and the tooling layer above it compounds.
What's the impact: SEA studios and small agencies sitting on gaming rigs and Macs can run multi-agent workloads without cloud spend. The router is public under Apache 2.0 and the multi-tenant office version does not exist yet.
Business Models
- The invoice becomes the collateral: Ping An lends cross-border sellers 95% of receivables in a day — TNGlobal
Ping An Digital Bank launched purchase-order financing for export e-commerce merchants, advancing up to 95 percent of receivables, facilities to $5 million and terms to 120 days, underwritten on real-time marketplace sales data.
Positive-sum angle: Underwriting on sales data rather than property widens the borrower pool. Marketplaces, logistics providers and the merchants themselves gain as working capital stops depending on what a founder happens to own.
What's the impact: SEA sellers on Shopee, Amazon and TikTok Shop should make their sales-data plumbing exportable now, because lenders underwriting on it are moving outward from Hong Kong. The data bridge is a fintech build, not a bank one.

Never miss a SEA deal.
