Asia builds the layer beneath the model; the grid decides who wins.

Infrastructure focus · sovereign rails · long horizons

Tech Breakthroughs
- NAVER scales sovereign AI to gigawatts with NVIDIA's DSX platform — NVIDIA Newsroom
NAVER will expand its GAK Sejong data center from 55 megawatts toward gigawatt scale on NVIDIA's DSX blueprint, powering next-generation HyperCLOVA X models and agentic services across Asia.
Positive-sum angle: Sovereign infrastructure built for one country becomes capacity for many. NAVER plans to serve AI demand across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, turning a national buildout into regional supply that smaller markets can rent rather than build from scratch.
What's the impact: SEA governments and enterprises should treat sovereign-grade inference as a service to procure, not a stack to own. Negotiate regional capacity off Korea's buildout now, before the gigawatt slots fill and pricing hardens.
Emerging Industries
- Bain values Southeast Asia's green economy at $430 billion by 2030 — Bain & Company
Bain's 2026 report sizes the regional green economy near $290 billion today, reaching $430 billion by 2030. Grid capacity, not capital, is the binding constraint: $540 billion in announced power and EV investment runs 35 percent ahead of realized spend.
Positive-sum angle: Grid bottlenecks sound like a problem; they are an opening. Every megawatt of new transmission, storage, and permitting capacity unlocks downstream demand from data centers, EV makers, and manufacturers, compounding value for whoever builds the connective infrastructure rather than fighting over scarce existing capacity.
What's the impact: SEA climate and infrastructure founders should position in the grid gap, not the headline EV race. Bain gives a 24-to-36-month window before capital redirects; ship transmission, storage, and permitting-tech pilots into ID, VN, and the SG-MY corridor in 2026.
Open Source Projects
- Open Design reaches 57,400 GitHub stars as local-first Claude Design alternative — Augment Code
Eight weeks after its first commit, Open Design shipped v0.9.0 with 310 contributors, keeping design artifacts local via SQLite and auto-detecting 16 coding agents so teams avoid cloud lock-in.
Positive-sum angle: Treating coding agents as interchangeable parts lifts the whole tooling layer. Teams switch providers without losing workflows, vendors compete on quality instead of lock-in, and the 259 shared skill templates compound as a commons every contributor draws from.
What's the impact: SEA engineering teams under data-residency rules should evaluate local-first agent tooling now. Open Design keeps artifacts on-machine, sidestepping the cross-border data questions that complicate cloud design tools for Singapore and Indonesian regulated sectors.
Business Models
- Money20/20 finds Southeast Asia the top fintech expansion target for 2026 — SCMP
Nearly 23 percent of senior fintech leaders name Southeast Asia their primary expansion focus, with growth led by bank-fintech partnerships like Grab Financial with Kasikornbank and GoTo with Bank Jago rather than outright disruption.
Positive-sum angle: Collaboration beats disruption here. Fintechs gain distribution and trust through incumbent banks, banks gain product velocity, and the SMEs that make up over 90 percent of Asian enterprises finally get tailored lending and supply-chain finance, expanding the market for everyone.
What's the impact: SEA fintech founders should design for partnership, not displacement. Build payroll-linked lending and supply-chain finance that plug into incumbent bank rails; the wedge into underserved SMEs runs through the kongsi of bank distribution, not around it.

Never miss a SEA deal.
