SEA Deal Ticker

Singapore's Thunes goes where banks won't: payouts open to Syria, Lebanon, South Yemen and three more

The payouts now reach Bahrain, Lebanon, Oman, South Yemen, Syria and the UAE, landing in bank accounts, mobile wallets and cash pickup points in local currency. Lebanon alone receives about US$7 billion in remittances a year.

Positive-sum angle: Any SEA operator paying contractors or suppliers in the Gulf has been routing through a correspondent bank that charges for the privilege; a Singapore-licensed payout rail into six of those markets is a second line to price against.
