Alphabet bets a monsoon city can be mapped: Waymo brings robotaxis to Singapore in 2028
Waymo will start with Jaguar I-PACE electric SUVs in Labrador and HarbourFront, in western Singapore. Specialists drive them manually through 2027 to learn the road layouts and monsoon conditions before the Land Transport Authority decides on approval.
Positive-sum angle: Waymo needs a year of human drivers, local maintenance crews and mapping staff before a single paid ride — anyone running a fleet-operations or vehicle-servicing outfit in Singapore has a 2027 customer who does not exist yet.
