Compute gets cheaper; the returns arrive as headcount and megawatts.

Cost-curve focus · deferred returns · grid constraints

Tech Breakthroughs
- Video production collapses onto one desk: LTX-2.5 ships open weights and a 6.8-second render — MarkTechPost
LTX released LTX-2.5, an open-weights video world model that renders a 10-second clip in 6.8 seconds on two GB200s, against 52 to 398 seconds for rival systems. Weights are free below $10 million in annual recurring revenue.
Positive-sum angle: Open weights at that speed lift everyone downstream of the render: agencies, game studios, ad shops, and the tooling layer above them. Each drop in render cost turns video from a budgeted line item into a variable a small team can afford to test.
What's the impact: SEA content and commerce operators should rebuild campaign economics around local rendering rather than per-clip API spend. Studios in Jakarta, Manila and Ho Chi Minh City can now bid on volume work that priced out at cloud rates last quarter.
Emerging Industries
- Who supplies the megawatts when the island runs out of land? Singapore clears 900MW from Johor — TNGlobal
Singapore's Energy Market Authority granted conditional approvals to Sembcorp Utilities for 300MW and Ditrolic's Southern Solar Alliance for 600MW of Johor solar paired with storage, targeting commercial operation around 2029. EMA's import pipeline now runs to 13 projects.
Positive-sum angle: Cross-border power trade pays both sides. Johor monetises land and sun it cannot consume, Singapore buys firm low-carbon supply for a sector carrying 40 percent of national emissions, and every approved line makes the next ASEAN grid link cheaper to finance.
What's the impact: Developers and family offices across ASEAN should treat transmission and storage, not panels, as the scarce asset. Land banking in Johor, Riau and southern Vietnam pays only where an interconnection queue and a named offtaker already exist.
Open Source Projects
- Routing beats buying the biggest model: NVIDIA opens Switchyard at a third of Opus 4.8's cost — NVIDIA
NVIDIA released Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, a 30B mixture-of-experts model with published training data, alongside NeMo Switchyard, an open routing library that sends each agent step to the cheapest capable model. Ramp cut costs 58 percent and runtime 33 percent.
Positive-sum angle: A router is the rare piece of infrastructure that helps rivals at the same time. Open, proprietary and self-hosted models all become substitutable inventory, so smaller labs win traffic on merit per step and the buyer stops paying frontier rates for routine work.
What's the impact: SEA teams still on single-vendor API rates should put a router in front of the stack before they renegotiate the contract. Cognition and Ramp banked 28 and 58 percent; the same margin sits inside most Singapore and Jakarta agent deployments.
Business Models
- AI adoption lifted revenue and headcount, not profit: Singapore's MTI tracked four years of firms — TNGlobal
Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry built a firm-level measure of AI use from online job postings and matched it to administrative data. Adopters raised employment and revenue; productivity and profit showed no statistically significant gain within four years.
Positive-sum angle: The lag is the tell, and the same gap opened after the internet arrived while firms rebuilt their processes around it. That interval is when the complementary work gets bought: data plumbing, retraining, workflow redesign, all of it revenue for someone else.
What's the impact: SEA boards should stop underwriting AI budgets on year-one margin. Fund the complementary spend, workflow redesign and data plumbing, across a four-year horizon, and price the vendors selling that work as the nearer-term winners.

Never miss a SEA deal.
