The harness is the product; the model is a swappable part.

Tech Breakthroughs
- Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google converge on the agent harness as product — The New Stack
The runtime that wraps a model with memory, tools, and control loops is now the sold unit. Anthropic prices Managed Agents at eight cents per session hour; OpenAI ships its harness as an open-source Agents SDK update.
Positive-sum angle: Standardizing the harness lets any capable model plug into the same agent scaffolding, so smaller labs and open-weight builders inherit production-grade orchestration without rebuilding it. Value shifts from owning the model to owning the workflow, widening who can ship reliable agents.
What's the impact: SEA founders should build on the harness layer, not the model. Wrap orchestration, memory, and domain tools around commodity inference and treat the model as swappable, so a cheaper open-weight release next quarter is a config change, not a rewrite.
Emerging Industries
- Vietnam opens its first domestic carbon exchange on the Hanoi bourse — Vietnam+
The exchange went live on 29 June at the Hanoi Stock Exchange, trading emission allowances and carbon credits. Roughly 511 million tonnes of CO2e allowances have been allocated across thermal power, steel, and cement for the 2025-2026 pilot.
Positive-sum angle: A priced carbon market turns emissions into a tradable input, rewarding the cleanest operators and funding the laggards' transition. Verifiers, registries, MRV software, and project developers all gain a market to sell into, deepening the region's climate-finance stack.
What's the impact: SEA climate and MRV founders should position before the ASEAN exchanges interlink. Vietnam joins Indonesia's IDXCarbon; build the measurement, registry, and cross-border credit rails now, while contract templates and pricing conventions are still being written.
Open Source Projects
- Zhipu releases GLM-5.2 open weights, topping GPT-5.5 on SWE-bench Pro — Interconnects
GLM-5.2 ships under an MIT license with a 744-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts design, roughly 40 billion active per token, and a one-million-token context window. It scores 62.1 on SWE-bench Pro, above GPT-5.5's 58.6.
Positive-sum angle: A permissive MIT license lets teams self-host, fine-tune, and ship the model commercially without gatekeeping. Every downstream tool built on it compounds the ecosystem, and frontier-grade coding stops being rationed by a handful of closed APIs.
What's the impact: SEA engineering teams can now run frontier coding agents on self-hosted GLM-5.2 at roughly a sixth of closed-API cost. Plan tooling budgets assuming commodity inference, and route sensitive code through local weights rather than a foreign API endpoint.
Business Models
- Qashier raises US$6.1M to bundle payments and embedded finance for merchants — TechNode Global
The Singapore merchant-operating-system startup closed a Series A+ led by Cocoon Capital on 30 June. Its platform folds payments, business software, CRM, and lending into one stack, processing over US$1 billion annualized for 20,000 merchants across four markets.
Positive-sum angle: Bundling software with embedded lending lets a merchant OS monetize the transaction data it already holds, turning a thin payments margin into recurring, higher-value services. Merchants gain working capital and tools they would otherwise stitch together from five vendors.
What's the impact: SEA fintech founders should choose the primitive (the merchant OS, the ledger, or the credit rail) before competing on UI. Own the daily transaction surface first; embedded lending and CRM attach later at far higher margin.

Never miss a SEA deal.
